LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — NBA Commissioner Adam Silver confirmed Las Vegas is on the list for a potential expansion franchise.
Appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday, Silver said he wants to get the league’s next TV contract settled before looking toward expansion.
“Vegas is definitely on our list,” Silver told McAfee.
Silver said the NBA has never been “anti-Vegas” like other sports leagues in the past. Las Vegas hosted the NBA All-Star Game back in 2007. He also said the NBA Summer League functions as a quasi-franchise and gathering place for all 30 teams.
Las Vegas just wrapped up hosting Super Bowl LVIII, renewing attention on the city as a sports destination. The valley is already home to the Raiders, Golden Knights and Aces, and the Oakland Athletics have been approved to relocate as well.
Current Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has made it clear he wants to own a portion of a future expansion team in Las Vegas.
