Situated in the heart of Southern Nevada, Clark County is home to a rapidly expanding manufacturing sector driven forward by several successful, innovative companies. Among them is Caltrol, Inc. – an employee-owned industrial automation solutions provider headquartered in Las Vegas since 2004. Founded in 1934, the company serves customers throughout the southwest region of the US, including Arizona, California, Nevada, and Hawaii across industries such as Refining, Life Sciences, Mining, Power Generation, Semiconductors, Food & Beverage, and more.

Caltrol helps companies improve operations and business results by providing process control equipment, automation solutions and a wide variety of services. Leveraging Southern Nevada’s highly skilled local workforce, advantageous location and robust infrastructure, Caltrol has found success within Clark County’s dynamic pro-business landscape.

A Community Built for Business

Caltrol President & CEO Scott Bedell relocated from Texas to Southern Nevada to lead the company’s operations in 2021. Upon joining the community, Bedell found the region well-equipped to support Caltrol’s business growth trajectory. Part of this can be attributed to the diverse range of skills, education and experience strengthening Clark County’s talent pool.

“We recently started a new hiring program for college grads called Caltrol University. The program targets top students from local universities and provides them with a unique onboarding and training experience across our organization. Our most recent Caltrol University hire was a Mechanical Engineer from the University of Nevada – Las Vegas.  We have quite a few employees that graduated from UNLV and have established a good working relationship with the university,” explained Bedell. “We’ve also had a lot of success hiring in Clark County for operations, accounting, IT, and HR.”

With the heart of its operations in Clark County, Caltrol has achieved remarkable growth in recent years. “We continue to expand the solutions and services we provide to our customers, and we’ve been in a growth mode since 2020,” said Bedell.

Additionally, the company has made impressive strides in its sustainability efforts, aligning with California and Southern Nevada’s commitments to advancing conservation and sustainability. In 2023, Caltrol released its first sustainability report, providing comprehensive updates and insights on its sustainability program. The report details the company’s progress within strategic environmental, social and governance initiatives. Caltrol is uniquely positioned to help large industrial facilities meet their environmental goals.

Caltrol’s commitment to its employees and the regional landscape have resulted in many successful projects for the company, contributing to its rapid and continued growth. “The relationships we have with many of our customers on the West Coast span multiple decades. More recently, we are helping our long-standing customers and new players in the market with projects related to hydrogen and energy transformation, lithium mining and extraction, carbon capture, and personalized medicine,” explained Bedell.

Caltrol has outgrown their current office and are currently looking to expand their existing space or potentially move to a new location within the city. The announcement of the Clark County Innovation District (CCID) aligns well with Caltrol’s vision for growth, and the company is poised to leverage the region’s push to blend its expanding tech sector seamlessly with core regional industries

A Strategic Location for Growth

Along with Clark County’s resource ecosystem designed to help businesses succeed, local companies are bolstered by the region’s strategic location

Clark County is home to some of the best road and highway infrastructure in the U.S., connecting eastern and western states by I-15 and northern and southern states by US-95. Air transportation options are also incredibly favorable, with Harry Reid International Airport being named among the nation’s top 10 most reliable airports in 2023.

“It’s a good central location for us,” said Bedell. “We have several other offices throughout California,  Arizona, and Hawaii. It’s important for us to have sales and service capabilities close to our customers.    The fact that we can get to any of our other locations in a short, one-hour flight is handy. Most of our new assembly operations are here. If a customer has an emergency, we can ship things quickly, and that’s been nice. In addition, Harry Reid International Airport is easy to get in and out of.”

A Brighter Quality of Living

The allure of conducting business extends to all areas of the community. Caltrol currently has 65 full-time employees in Clark County. When asked about his employees’ experience living and working in Southern Nevada, Bedell’s answer was indicative of the region’s high quality of life. “Positive — we have people that have lived all over the country and other parts of the world in this office, and everybody really likes working here.”

Southern Nevada boasts a quality of living that extends far beyond the lights of the Las Vegas Strip. Since joining the community, Bedell has had the opportunity to explore more of what makes the area an ideal place to call home.

“I used to come to Vegas all the time and I didn’t really get out and experience everything it has to offer. I love the quality of life here,” remarked Bedell. “We have 300+ days of sunshine, the traffic isn’t bad, and there are endless options for outdoor activities, dining, and entertainment.  The destinations within a three or four-hour drive are pretty amazing too.”

Clark County’s strategic location, talented workforce, and community of business-oriented individuals make it an ideal place for companies like Caltrol to operate and grow. Ready to join us?
